Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" knee injury when the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 against the Heat.

Jokic sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an accidental coming together with teammate Spencer Jones.

The other player stepped on the foot of the big man, and he promptly went down to the ground holding his knee.

The veteran player, who leads the league this season in boards and assists, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to sustaining the problem.

He will have an scan on the following day to determine the extent of the injury.

"Immediately, Jokic realized there was a problem," stated Nuggets head coach Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Any player who suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as talented as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."

"The team will adjust together. Clearly, currently, I'm more worried just about him personally and the frustration of going through something of that nature."
