A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign aims to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.

An Opportunity for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”

Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.

“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”

Track's Background and Featured Artists

The single was laid down following a major charity concert held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.

The notable list of artists featured on Lullaby features a selection of prominent voices from the industry. All were part of the September show, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was brought to life by a team of music creators. The single showcases a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.

The team running the project have clarified that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These donations will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.

“We haven't set a specific target,” a representative explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”

The context in the area was noted for its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure described as levelled or seriously harmed.

“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
