The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Musical Celebration Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will listen to a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The theme of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

This annual carol service will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
