The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when cast member the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
