The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:
- Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
