The former Liverpool manager says coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing near-decade reign which brought a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, now holds roles as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title last season, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would embrace the idea that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I declared I will never coach a different club in England. Which implies should it be the Reds...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions must arise to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or constant media duties each week.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent thus frequently great spirits in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, praising him for the adjustments that took the title last campaign. The team has suffered a string of losses in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact at the club. The forward was killed in a car crash together with his sibling in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys too. Not a single person will ever use it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Unbearable.”
