The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team reached their initial Fall Classic following the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a four games to three win in the series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for this squad, the city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, making him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it hurts" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but commended their performance this season.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of this game," he added.

Toronto secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
