Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with performances like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
