Followers Urge Arrest of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who leaped a barrier and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being arrested", though legal records showed that he was set to appear on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Record of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram profile features recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney concert in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed dealing with PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented another comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the popular Broadway and West End production Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected bond between two very different sorceresses.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, securing several for outstanding attire and production design.
